처음 유학와서, 내가 미국에서 Alien 으로 분류된다는 사실을 알고 깜짝 놀랬었다. Alien은 우주괴물을 가리키는 단어로만 쓰이는줄 알았었기에... 위키피디아에 따르면, In U.S. law, an alien is a legal term for a person, either a corporation or a human, who is not a United States national.

작년 브라질 여행조차도 포기하면서 신청했던 영주권, 마침내 허가가 났다는 편지를 받았다. EAD 카드나 H 비자 등등의 애들은 Notice Type 이 Approval Notice 였는데, 영주권은 Welcome Notice 라고 적혀있네. 이제 미국대사관 가서 (마음 졸이며) 몇시간씩 기다렸다 몇분 얘기하는 비자인터뷰 더 이상 안받아도 되고, 내 의지가 아닌 상태로 미국에서 쫓겨나는 일은 없겠구나...
